These beautiful bracelets are hand-made by women in Tosagua, Ecuador, as part of The Eden’s Rose Foundation's Macramé Project. Many of the women involved in the Macramé Project are mothers, relatives or caregivers of the up to sixty children under five at the ERF's Basic Needs Center in Tosagua, located in the inland area of the coastal province of Manabí. The Macramé project began with the purpose of providing gainful employment to women through the revival of local skills and crafts.
Today, over 300 women have participated in free classes and many of the original students are now paid teachers. This project is building a sense of achievement and in many cases a fully participating woman can double her yearly household income by creating macramé in her free time while caring for her children and creating a loving and safe environment. The many hands that come together to make this macramé possible include 50 to 100 at any time with over 300 total participants.
Macramé bracelets that feature pre-Andean amber are often referred to as “Earth Watches” by their wearers. This rare and lovely amber can come in several shades, with some specimens including the fossil remains of the wood that the amber was once attached to, while others have insects from the time period. Most of this amber is from before the Aquitanian age of the Miocene period, whereas some even predates the formation of the Andes Mountains!
This amber unifies the sun and the earth with its energizing and grounding qualities and will encourage the manifestation of ideas into reality.
